PHILLIP DIECKOW

PIANO

Phillip Dieckow, world-renowned pianist and teacher, founded the Dieckow School of Music in Hoboken and Jersey City in 1990. A prominent resident of Hoboken, his influence is felt in all aspects of the community.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, like his contemporary and fellow Texan, the pianist Van Cliburn, Mr. Dieckow has become heir to the great 20th century examples of both the Russian and German schools of performance, yet his style is uniquely his own. Critics praised his poetic lyricism and full bodied spirit and his brilliant technique that is full of thunder and sparkle. Following his pre-college study with Karl Leifheit, Mr. Dieckow worked with Dalies Frantz, a student of both the great German pianist Artur Schnabel and Vladimir Horowitz, Olga Stroumillo, the assistant to Horowitz and the celebrated teacher and composer Harold Zabrack. Mr. Dieckow currently coaches with his long-time friend and mentor Dr. Ana Maria Trenchi de Bottazzi. Mr. Dieckow holds both a Bachelor and Master's degree in Piano Performance from Webster University and Eastern New Mexico University.

A multi-faceted artist, Mr. Dieckow has given and produced over one hundred concerts in Hoboken since 1990, has given four solo recitals at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall and is currently preparing his first CD, to be issued in the Fall of 1999. Closely connected to the Moscow Gnessins Musical Institute, Mr. Dieckow has instituted both Soviet-American and Russian-American Youth Festivals of Music here in New Jersey. He is represented by students on concert stages and in major conservatories throughout the world.

In the Fall of 2004 Mr. Dieckow was appointed Artist in Residence in Piano at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken. He will be teaching students from Stevens in addition to his current students from the DSM.

On October 17th, 2004, Sunday at 3 PM he will give a dedicatory recital in the sanctuary of the St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church at 8th and Hudson Streets in Hoboken. Admission is open, by donation and all are invited to celebrate the move of the historic St. Matthew Trinity historic 1883 Steinway Concert Grand into its new home in the sanctuary of the church. This concert will be the opening concert of the 2004-2005 series of "Great Music at St. Matthew Trinity". The series will feature many of our outstanding local performing artists.

"In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that through the persistence and obstinacy of beauty, God forces His presence on us and that each of us, in a large or small way, is responsible for our own thread in this tapestry. Reaching toward this with my playing and guiding others toward this end with my teaching is my thread." ... PD
